We were so excited to see news cameras at the protest AIDS Healthcare Foundation planned outside Los Angeles Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez’s office in Glassell Park.

This story came out before our nomination was heard at the Planning and Land Use Management committee (which we won) AND the City Council meeting that ultimately kicked the can down to early August, instead of declaring the home a Historic-Cultural Monument.

The City Council vote to postpone our hearing was days before the annual LA Pride march and parade, which was originally planned and strategized from Kight’s home on 4th Street.

Councilmember Hernandez ultimately marched in the parade herself.

A phrase that repeats again and again in my head is that she called the home where this history happened “a land-use problem.”
